Seven senior football players are trading in their Blue Jay helmets for college football helmets.

Seven football players are expected to sign letters of intent today to play at the college level. Two others say they are still deciding what to do with their football futures.

Ironically,  the two football players who sustained serious injuries at the beginning of the football season received offers from the biggest schools.

Running back Matthew Falcon, who earlier this year decommitted from the University of Michigan, has decided to take his talents to Kalamazoo at Western Michigan University after tearing his ACL this past football season.

Falcon described what was the ultimate determining factor in his decision: “I felt comfortable with the coaching staff, I felt at home, I felt I could showcase my talents well in Kalamazoo.”

Also, cornerback Jordan Davison will be a preferred walk-on for the University of Pittsburgh after tearing multiple ligaments in his knee this past season.

Other athletes such as Joshua Pickens have been through many football camps and a prolonged recruiting process but finally committed to a university. Pickens plans to sign with Culver- Stockton College, a private liberal arts college in Canton, Missouri. “I’m happy, glad that it’s over,” said Pickens. “The recruiting process is long and stressful; it’s ridiculous.”

Pickens said he offers Culver-Stockton’s football team “speed, hands, yeah they need receivers, bad!”

Four others are expected to sign on National Signing Day:

  • Delan Wynn said he is committing to Tiffin University, in Tiffin, Ohio.
  • Tyrone White said he is signing with Saginaw Valley State University, in Saginaw, Mich.
  • Adrian Springer said he is signing with University of  Mount Union, in Alliance, Ohio.
  • Timothy Brown said he is signing with Siena Heights University,a private Catholic university in Adrian, Mich.

Two other football players – Robert McFarlin and Tremaine Cole – said they have not yet decided where to play football next year. They both said they need to visit the colleges that have contacted them and hope to make a decision before March.

Southfield High School’s signing day ceremony is scheduled to take place today, Feb. 3, at 11:30 a.m. in Southfield High’s library.
