Senior Lucian Phillips shoots a music video of Detroit rapper Eastside. Phillips has a video production business called Phillips Productions.

Senior Lucian Phillips is not waiting to earn a business degree before starting his own business.
The young entrepreneur owns a production company called Phillips Productions, which produces high-definition music videos and creates business logos.
Phillips Productions has produced music videos for more than 10 local artist and has designed more than 50 logos and album covers.
“Even the people who I didn’t think would support me have been here for me,” says Phillips.
To produce quality work, he invested in a Canon Rebel T4i camera, which he says is ideal for photography and videos. He says he hopes to branch out into taking senior portraits in the near future.
Business teacher Erin McBrien says she often uses Phillips as an example in her business classes of someone who recognized a market niche and created a business to fit that need.

It’s unusual for a high school student to have his own business.

said McBrien, but she says Southfield High has had other successful entrepreneurs in recent years.
Besides Phillips, McBrien said she knows of other high school students who own a baking business, a tutoring business, clothing lines and photography businesses. “I admire them, and I think it takes dedication to be a full-time student and run a successful business.”
Phillips says he always wanted to be an entrepreneur. He started Phillips Productions in October of 2014 and originally was just doing photography. Phillips has pushed his company to further limits by growing his clientele and offering vlogs, music videos, photography and graphic design services.
He says one reason he is still in business is because of the support of his family and friends, such as senior Milton Bass, for whom Phillips has created several logos for Bass’ business “Wild Life Clothing.”
Bass says he supports Phillips’ business because Phillips does quality work in a timely manner and they have been friends since the beginning of high school. Bass uses the logos that Phillips designs on the front of shirts. Bass says he paid Phillips to design three logos for him.
“My drive doesn’t stop there,” says Phillips, who wants to open offices in California and Atlanta, where he wants to collaborate with local artists.
