Graduation Date Changes to June 14
Graduation for the Class of 2015 is June 14 – approximately one week later than usual.
In past years, graduation has been held the first Sunday of June. Not this year, due to the availability of Chene Park, the graduation site.
Assistant Principal Sonia Jackson said she was “not sure” why Chene Park did not reserve the first Sunday in June for Southfield Public Schools, as in past years.
Senior Davonte Smith said, “I’ll be happy to graduate, but I’m not happy about the three-week gap between the last day of school for seniors and graduation day. “
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Each year the high schools in Southfield alternate graduation times so that there will not be a debate over who gets the best time slot.

This date change is not cool. I have family coming to see my daughter off to prom, and now they have to stay even longer because who ever did it, pushed the date back a whole week. Stuff like this will make the parents upset!

This is really unnecessary. Why are we graduating almost a month after we get out of school? This is really unnecessary and uncalled for. I”m highly upset with this!

Changing the date can affect people who have families that live out of town and have already purchased plane tickets for this special occasion.
