New Zonta Club Attracts Members

Female students can join a new club at Southfield High.

The Zonta Club or “Z Club” is for females who want to develop their skills, explore career alternatives and improve international understanding through service projects.

Eleven SHS students were inducted into the club this year, and the club will take new members annually, said Assistant Principal Sonia Jackson, who advises the SHS chapter of the club.

Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. Z Clubs led by Z members are established at high schools and middle schools while Golden Z Clubs are established at colleges.

“I joined the Z Club to be around professional, positive women,” said junior Adriana Echols, who was inducted February 10 at a ceremony held at Michigan First Credit Union, in Southfield.

Zonta also provides scholarships to women who have an interest in promoting the status of women worldwide.
