School Spirit: The Competitive Cheer team is all smiles.

The Blue Jays finished third out of seven teams in an OAA competitive cheer competition held Jan. 28, at Groves High School, in Birmingham.
Taking first place was West Bloomfield High School. Oak Park High School finished second.
“I am very proud of my girls and the fact that they placed,” said competitive team Coach Stancie Napoleon.
One of the team’s leaders, junior Breanah Boyd, said she was just happy to compete, and the fact that they didn’t win first place didn’t matter because they placed.
The Blue Jays finished the first round in first place, the round that tests the teams’ arm motions, voices, and formations. They completed the second round in second place, taking an 18-point deduction for not having enough girls on the floor. That round focused on tumbling skills, such as round offs and walkovers.
The Blue Jays finished the third round in third place overall. In that round, the judges looked at tumbling, stunts and creativity.
Team leader Kayla McKenie was honored after the competition for being a senior and for her hard work and dedication to the team.
