Stacey Nunley is the new Physics teacher in room C-106. She started at Southfield High in January.

Science teacher Stacey Nunley has filled the vacant Physics position created when Thomas Hurley retired last June

The position was filled by substitutes for the first semester of this school year.

“I’t’s just like starting from scratch,” said Nunley., who likes to wear fashionable clothes under her white lab coat. “I love the fact that you (science students) were orphans looking for help, and now you have me.”

Nunley formerly taught seventh and eighth grade science at Levey Middle School in Southfield. She also taught at Mumford High School in Detroit, Hampton Middle School in Detroit and Skyline High School in Ann Arbor.

Her desk is adorned with a vase of flowers and a photo of her 2-year-old son, Felix Miles, and 5-year-old daughter, Zora.

The Cass Technical High School graduate from the class of 1990 has a Physics degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a masters degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois.

Senior Brianna Halloway says Nunley is “sweet but sassy at the same time, which makes her fun and more like the students. The way she teaches is understandable.”

But Halloway says she doesn’t like that Nunley assigns challenging homework.

Junior Qayyim Carr says, “I realized her teaching style is similar to Mr. (Andrew) Green’s because she can have fun with us but get serious and teach in a more stern approach when necessary.”

In addition to teaching Physics, Nunley also teaches one all-male Biology class.
