Area Voters Approve Millage Renewal

Southfield voters on Nov. 5 approved a six-year renewal of the current school millage.

The renewal will take effect July 1, 2014.

The millage represents approximately 50 percent of the operating expenses for Southfield Public Schools, according to a letter sent home to parents from Superintendent Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson.

The millage renewal means the schools in the district will continue to have money to fund programs for students.

The schools have, however, reduced their operating costs and made cuts totaling more than $80 million in the past six years.
