School counselor Tom Holliday says every college applicant should have another set of eyes look over college applications before hitting the “submit” button.

School Counselor Tom Holliday last year helped seniors earn more than $8.2 million in college scholarships. He has been guiding seniors through the application process for more than a decade. Here are his top 10 tips for successful completion of the college application process:

1. Keep those senior grades up.

2. Choose a career path that interest you.

 3. Retake the ACT or SAT if your score could be better.

 4. Research which colleges offer the degree you want.

 5. Narrow your choices to three colleges.

 6. Research your top three schools.

 7. List the pros and cons of each school that interests you.

 8. Become familiar with the applications of the colleges you want to attend.

 9. Figure out which of your college choices require an essay, then write the essays.

 10. Have someone proofread the entire application before submitting it.
