Got your Spring Break plans set yet?
Spring Break for Southfield High students begins after school on Friday, March 28, and classes resume Monday, April 8.
There are many different ways to keep things fun and interesting over break, and even productive. Breaks are commonly used as time for vacationing, but if that’s not an option, here is an array of other ideas to do near home for a great spring break:
OPTION 1
For many students, one of the most common things to do during Spring Break is simply to relax, and there are numerous different ways and places to do so all in the Soutfield area. Getting a massage is one way to do this. LaVida massage center in Bloomfield Township is focused on health, education and you. For new customers, your first visit is $40 for an hour-long session. If you, a friend or a family member are interested in getting the true LaVida experience, it is located at 3167 West Maple Road and can be contacted at (248)-258-1111.
Option 2
Students who prefer to stay active during the break could be interested in a way to exercise while still having fun with friends, and Sky Zone in Canton is a fun place to get moving. This land of indoor trampolines provides multiple activities for jumpers of all ages. If you’d like to soar through the world of Sky Zone, contact them at (734)-981-0007.
But for the more adventurous, visiting JD Racing Indoor Go-Karts in Novi might be a better idea. With go-karts that can reach up to 40 miles per hour, it’s the ideal place to fulfill your need for speed. Reserve a race by calling (248)-773-8777.
OPTION 3
Going out to eat is always a popular option, and this week-long break provides more than enough time to feed that hunger. If you’re looking for a spot that’s affordable, but without the fast-food taste, try SmashBurger on Orchard Lake Road in Bloomfield Township. The casual restaurant offers an array of gourmet burgers, shakes and sodas, and many different kinds of fries. Aside from the 13 different sandwiches to choose from, SmashBurger also offers healthy salads, hot dogs, chicken strips and vegetarian options for those who avoid meat.
A more ethnic option for someone looking to get away from the same ol’ foods may like Tokyo Buffet Lounge in Southfield, Monterrey Cantina in Royal Oak, Maggiano’s Little Italy in Troy, or even Thai Express in Southfield.
OPTION 4
Looking to stay on top of your school studies during your time off? A visit to a museum or simply just a trip to the library for a few hours can help. For some, learning activities and opportunities to gain knowledge and insight can be more fun than it is for others, and the Charles H. Wright Museum offers a range of exhibits and programs for that. It’s located in downtown Detroit’s cultural center and is open Tuesday-Sunday. Hours of operation can vary, so call ahead.
At present, the museum hosts a new exhibit called Visions of Our 44th President, which will be in Detroit until August 4. Some exhibits in addition to that are Black Girls Rock, And Still We Rise, Moving to His Own Beat: Fela and Inspiring Minds.
The museum address is 315 East Warren Avenue, in Detroit. Phone
(313) 494-5800.
OPTION 5
As the final option to improve your Spring Break, a week gives you plenty of time to catch up on your community service by giving back to others. Why not provide yourself with the wonderful feeling of helping those in need?
You could start at Gleaner’s Food Bank in Pontiac, or simply sign up online for the Pledge to No Kid Hungry with shareourstrength.org. Organizations like this make it easy to better your community, and it can be fun meeting new people while doing so.
If none of these ideas appeal to you, you can always do your homework.
