Many seniors say they are anxiously awaiting the March 23 release of “The Hunger Games” movie.
The adventure flick is based on the book by the same name, which most seniors finished as a summer reading assignment for school. Others have read the book by Suzanne Collins for enjoyment.
“
The Hunger Games was an awesome book,” senior Alexandria Tucker said. “I’m expecting the movie to be good, too.”
The book features a young girl named Katniss Everdeen who fights for life in an Olympic-style game next to dreamy, smoldering boys.
“I plan to see the movie,” said senior Asia Tennille. “It was such a great book that I feel obligated to see the film.” She said she’s especially looking forward to seeing the scene when Katniss runs for her life from the giant fireballs chasing after her. “I can’t wait to see it.”
Senior Jordan Jamerson said, “The book was very captivating.” His favorite parts were the action scenes during the Hunger Games competitions.
The Hunger Games
book contains three parts: “The Tributes,” “The Games,” and “The Victor.” The first part is a look at Everdeen’s life. It also shows the selection of competitors for the Hunger Games, which is like a survival reality game. “The Games” is the part of the book where the games have actually begun. The third part is the outcome of the games.
Who wins? Well you’ll just have to see the movie to figure that out. Or, read the book. There have been many other books that have been turned into popular movies, including “
Beowulf,” “Speak,” the “Twilight Saga” and the “Harry Potter” books.
“I’ve read “
Harry Potter,” and I like the movies better because it is easier to understand the spells,” said Tucker.
Tennille, however, says that she usually prefers the books to the movies. She said, “Just like a billion other people, I read the “
Twilight Saga,” and I actually prefer the book. The movie cut out a lot of the detail.”
Jamerson said he’s seen “
Beowulf,” the movie, and he has read the lengthy poem, but he likes the poem more because it’s more creative.
