Senior Khalid Bates has been cast as Jesus of Nazareth in the upcoming musical “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
Two other Southfield High student have lead roles in the musical, which is the first-ever joint production by students from all four of the district’s high schools.
Southfield High senior Dantel Shaw has been cast in the role of Peter, and senior Jalen White has been cast as Pontius Pilate.
“I guess they liked my singing,” said Bates, who is a tenor.
The play is scheduled for four dates: Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, and Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28, according to Director Stephanie Schinke-Justice, of Southfield-Lathrup High School. All shows start at 7 p.m. at Southfield-Lathrup’s auditorium.
Schinke-Justice accounts for the conjoining of the four schools for one play, stating that “The program believes that everyone should have the fine arts option.”
Ticket information will be released at a later date, Schinke-Justice said.
