Ten juniors were inducted into Scholars Plus on Nov. 2, in the library.
Scholars Plus is an extra-curricular program for gifted students.
Junior Marquis Calhoun, who was among the inductees, said, “It is a honor to be a part of Scholars Plus because we are recognized as being an elite group.”
The Vice-President of the group, senior Kiara Bryant, said, “It is not easy to get in, and you have to work hard to stay in.”
To qualify for induction, you must be a junior or senior, maintain a 3.3 grade point average, and agree to take at least two Advanced Placement courses, as well as the corresponding Advanced Placement exams, and complete a project and a paper.
Those who finish the program receive a “Distinguished Scholar” diploma.
Program Director Kara Shuell says, “Students should want to be a part of Scholars Plus because they can have the chance to be around kids who are just like them, who have the same goals and aspirations in life.”
Scholars Plus President Senior Claire McCarthy said she encourages juniors to get started early on their projects.
