The Madrigals singing group is raising money to sing in person at the presidential inauguration in January in Washington, D.C.
Choir Director Daryl Talyor said Southfield High’s Madrigal choir is the only high school choir group invited from Michigan to perform at the inauguration.
She is planning to take 40 choir students, some of whom are also from the Varsity and Women’s Choir groups.
The cost of the trip is $600 per student, but the choir students are trying to raise money for the trip by offering gospel concerts, asking for donations, and planning skating and bowling parties.
Senior Derrick Terry said, “The trip is a once-in-a-lifetime experience (that) most people won’t get. It’s a blessing, a privilege and an honor.”
