The state’s new graduation requirements will take effect with the class of 2011 – next year’s incoming freshmen.
To graduate, they’ll need four years of math and English, three years of science and social studies, one credit year of health and physical education, two years of foreign language and one credit of visual, performing and applied arts.
“With the competition students have to deal with to get jobs and into college, our Michigan students have to be better prepared,” said Assistant Principal Rita Teague.
Dem. Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed into law the new graduation requirements on Apr. 20, 2006.
