The Southfield Jay picked up two Spartan Awards this year. They are the highest awards given in Michigan high school journalism.
One Spartan was for the overall quality of school newspaper. The other was for the overall quality of the school newspaper’s website.
The awards were given by the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association.
The newspaper staffers also received numerous individual awards, including second in the state in the Photo Story division for a feature on "Motown's must-see sites" by Warren Woodford and Nicolet Horrington.
Horrington also received third in the state in the news/feature photography division for a photo she took of former Assistant Principal Marty Bulger issuing student ID cards to a long line of waiting students.
