Fame, the Musical, stirred up the students of Southfield High School with its spectacular performance.
The musical is about a group of students who get into a prestigious performing arts high school. It follows four years of the students’ lives as they come to realize who they really are.
The production involved over 100 students who were dedicated to its outcome. Most notably, senior Shari Holly acted, sang and danced her heart out as Carmen. And senior Orna Jones sang beautiful solos as Serena Catz.
Two senior males – Michael Varner as a Spanish flirt and Michael Garner as Tyrone Jackson – proved to be talented comedic actors. Thanks in large part to those two, the production was humorous, keeping smiles on the faces of those who watched.
Freshman Erica Hayes was a commanding presence on stage. Hard to believe she’s only a freshman.
The pit crew, including Band Director Tom Miller on saxophone, played very upbeat music, which was pleasant to the ear but at times was louder than the singers on stage, especially since only a handful of them had microphones.
The stage props created by the tech crew were creative and colorful.
As with any high school production, the tech crew had a few mishaps while moving stage props and at times the pit crew was too loud and it was hard to hear the actors especially since only a handful of them had microphones.
The actors seemed to enjoy themselves as much as the audience. Fame, the Musical was a true treat, well worth seeing.
