Most students visit family members, take trips within the United States or get jobs during summer vacation. But sophomore Alexis Manley will be traveling to Europe through the People to People Student Ambassador Program from July 2- July 23.
Manley and approximately 35 other scholars have been randomly selected to visit several European countries, including Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain and England. They will travel with chaperones.
During her journey she will be residing with many families. “I’m nervous because I hear they are going to have us doing chores and eating different food,” said Manley, who is 15 years old. She plans to carry a camera, clothes and fan in her suit case.
Manley is not only looking for a great experience in Europe but has ultimate goals set for her life. Manley says that she wants to be happy and successful.
She takes a journey of her own during the school year. She participates in Junior Varsity Basketball, Varsity Volleyball, athletic training, Southfield Student Congress, Scholars Plus, National Honor Society, and Big Brother and Big Sister.
Manley says she is looking forward to meeting new friends. “I will get a chance to see how people outside the U.S. interact. I think I’ll have a wider view of life and be more open,” said Manley.
The People to People Student Ambassador Program provides opportunities for students to explore domestic and foreign destinations, learning about history, government, economics and culture.
