For some students, the last semester of senior year is the longest in their high school career. But what if you had the option of leaving earlier? When that opportunity knocked for senior Danielle Gordon, she opened the door. Gordon is the only Southfield High student who has all her credits and decided to make her first semester of her senior year her last semester. Here’s her story:
Q: What did you do to earn all your credits to complete high school after first semester?
Last year I took a night school English class at Oakland Community College and had the credit transferred over to Southfield High. I also made sure I would have all my required classes completed during first semester.
Q: Why did you decide to leave after the first semester?
Because I wanted to begin college earlier. I want to do something in the medical profession, and I know it will take a long time to do it, so the sooner I started, the better.
Q: What are you going to do with your free time now?
I really don’t have much free time. I’m going to Oakland Community College this semester. I’m taking two classes, Composition 2 and Sociology.
Q: Do you plan to earn your professional degrees at Oakland Community College?
I’m planning on taking more classes at O.C.C to prepare me more for a four-year university.
Q: What university do you want to attend?
I want to transfer to the University of North Carolina Central.
Q: Do you feel Southfield High has prepared you enough for college?
Yes, I feel I was prepared enough for college at Southfield High. I’ve always taken the hard classes, like Honors English and Advanced Placement History, just to help me gain a better learning experience.
Q: Are you going to miss anything about Southfield High?
I’m really going to miss the activities I’ve been involved in, like D.E.C.A, B.P.A (Business Professionals of America), and the Business Academy.
Q: Will you participate in the end of the year senior events?
Yes. I would not have left after first semester if I didn’t have the option of participating in events like prom.
