The Fab Four is back and going to college. Long days of football practice and hard work have paid off for four Southfield High senior varsity football players.
Aaron Baker, Vincent Hicks, Aaron Love, and Isaac Price all received full college football scholarships and signed their letters of intent on Feb. 4 at a ceremony held in the Blue Jay Cafe.
The four officially announced the scholarships they accepted and the colleges they will be attending in the fall.
Love will be attending the University of Delaware, which is a Division IAA school. “I chose Delaware because it’s a winning program,” Love said.
Love led his team with the most touchdowns of the season, which earned him the offensive Most Valuable Player award of this season.
During the ceremony Coach David Reese said, “We’re here today to acknowledge four of our seniors who are going to go on and continue their education and play football.”
Reese gave praise to Love, saying, “Aaron is one of the best football players I’ve had the honor of coaching. He doesn’t let his size play a factor in his performance.”
Vincent Hicks will be attending Central Michigan University. At the signing Hicks said, “Central is the place for me.”
Hicks had a rough season with injuries but was still able to shine as his team’s defensive back. At Central, Hicks will joining SHS alumnus Khalid Walton, who graduated last year and plays defense for Central.
Reese said, “Vincent is the team’s silent leader. He doesn’t say much, but when he does, it’s powerful and keeps the team focused and motivated.”
Price signed to play football for the University of Indiana – one of the nation’s Big 10 universities. For Southfield High, Price led the Blue Jays in tackles on the defensive end.
Price moved the crowd during a tearful display of appreciation to his mother, as each player gave thanks and appreciation to their families and friends for their support over the past years.
Running back Aaron Baker announced to the audience that he will be attending the Division II school of Central State University in Ohio.
Baker, who transferred to Southfield High in his sophomore year, was hailed by Reese as an asset to the team for his leadership skills.
