Members of the Junior Class say they are disgruntled over the way a vacancy in their Class Board was filled.
Without any special election, junior LaShana Brown was quietly named to the Class Board in November after Class Vice-President Dominique Suttles was removed from Southfield High for not being an Oakland County resident.
Gym teacher Jennifer McClorey, who has now taken the place of the late Hank Moulder as adviser to Southfield Student Congress , said the replacement process was strictly “procedure.”
McClorey said, “I went directly to (former Assistant Principal Marty) Bulger, and this is the correct procedure, especially since this was in the middle of the year.” Bulger did not return a call for comment.
But McClorey could not show any written procedure to this reporter when asked for a copy.
To fill the board vacancy, each member of the present board, if they chose to, was moved up a slot. The unfilled slot left after the move, was filled by LaShana Brown, who was a part of this year’s auxiliary board and served on last year’s class board.
But according to junior William Massey, “We should’ve had another election for the missing spot.”
Fellow junior Brittany Rogers said, “There should’ve been a special election just like the seniors had last year. It’s important for us as a class to know who is doing what.”
