The school’s MEAP results for this year’s seniors are in, and there’s great news. The Language Arts portion of the results in a surprising uproar show that nearly every student in the Class of 2004 who was tested either met or rose above the statewide requirements for reading and writing.
On the English Language Arts portion, 98 percent passed, with 97 percent passing the Writing portion and 97 percent passing the Reading portion. These scores do not even reflect the retests that some seniors underwent in October. But with such good scores, the retakes can only improve matters.
These scores are astonishing considering the well-known fact that dozens of students who are supposed to be seniors are not seniors by credits. Despite the shortcomings of this class, the scores echo the amount of hard work applied by the English Department to raise scores. Students took practice MEAP tests and English teachers graded each others’ papers.
The Class of 2004 did considerably better on the MEAP than the Class of 2003. The class of 2003 only had 73 percent pass the Writing portion and 69 percent pass the Reading portion.
Though the math and science scores were nothing to shout about, the scores did improve from previous years.
This improvement shows that despite the Class of ‘04’s lack of interest in academics, the members do possess the skills that have been taught to them throughout their academic career.
Way to go, Class of ‘04!
