Southfield’s top mat men this year are seniors Antonio Echols and Darius Durret. Echols wrestles in 215 weight class and Darius wrestles in the heavyweight class, at 285. Both have been wrestling since the 10 grade.
“My motivation comes from within myself and also the push from my coaches to do well,” says Echols, who is currently ranked number 8 in the state and holds a 24 wins, 4 loss record.
Durret has a record of 28 wins and 3 losses. Sophomore David Cole says one day he hopes to be like Antonio Echols.
The team as a whole has some achievements. “This is our second year in a row having a first place league title,” says Coach Burden.
