Techno Jays Finish 10th out of 40 in Robotics Competition
If you happened to hear the thousands of people cheering at Southfield High School on Saturday,or see hundreds of cars outside the school, it wasn’t for a basketball game. It was for the FIRST Robotics Competition held at Southfield High School.
Forty robotics teams from around the state gathered to compete against each other’s robots for awards.
“I love the energy and the excitement,” says Una Jakupovic from Team Cosmos of Hamtramck High School.
Samantha Weslin from the Wired Devils of Grosse Ile High School said, “The best part about the competition is meeting new people.”
The robots competed in various events, such as throwing boulders, crawling over terrain and climbing a castle wall.
Southfield High School’s Techno Jays made it to the last round of the semi finals but did not advance to the finals, which meant they placed tenth out of 40 teams.
“We gave it our all, we were a true team today,” said Techno Jays team member Drew Thomas.
This was not the end for the Techno Jays; they will be traveling to Traverse City to compete in the regional competition on March 8 through March 9.
