Southfield High School’s new name will be decided by the Board of Education, after students select their top two name choices.

Southfield High School has officially been renamed Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology and is the new home of the red, white and blue Warriors.

The announcement was made Jan. 12 at the Board of Education meeting after the two merging schools – Southfield High and Southfield-Lathrup – had held a vote among freshmen, sophomores and juniors for the new name, colors and mascot. The Board reviewed the student preferences and  made the final decisions based on student input.

The Board also announced that Sonia Jackson will lead the charge for the Warriors heading into next fall.

The two high schools are set to merge in the fall of 2016.

Board of Education President Michael Poole called it “a great day”  in the history of Southfield Public Schools.
