Baseball Coach Jamie Glinz (center) gets his players ready for the season.

Fifty players competed for 18 spots on the Boys Varsity Baseball team this year, making the selection process rigorous, said Baseball Coach Andrew Green.
“I felt like I owed it to every single kid out there to tell them if they did or did not make the team and why,” Green said.
So at the end of tryouts, either Green or Coach Jamie Glinz spoke privately with each player.
Tryouts were complicated by cold weather and melting snow, forcing the coaches and players to cram into the old gym. They ran batting practice inside, waiting for their chance to run out to the field after the snow melted.
Green said he still managed to get the work done despite the weather conditions. “We rotate and watch some swings,” Green said. “We have a batting machine and some room to throw.”
Green and Glinz added four freshmen to the team this year: Aaron Parker., Matt Osborne, John Derby and Jason Lipsey, who will likely play catcher.
Parker said he has been playing baseball since the age of five, in Little League. “It hasn’t really set in that I’m a freshman on the varsity team, but I’m ready to take on the challenge.”
Returning players include seniors Corry Oliver, (pitcher and outfield), Sharod Bridges (second and third base) Kareem Allen (third base,) George Osborne (pitcher and second) and Qayyim Carr (first, second and short stop).
The team includes a pair of brothers this year – sophomore George Osborne and his freshman brother, Matt.
The coaches picked three captains to lead the team: Oliver, Bridges and George Osborne.
Bridges said, “The level of discipline has increased, and the seniors are starting to take more responsibility on the team.”
The team has a full roster of 15 games, all of which will break in the new red dirt on the upgraded field.
