Sophomore Karl Patrick, number 32, attempts to pass the ball. He and his teammates are one game away from being district champions this year.

Tonight is a big night for the Boys Varsity Basketball Team.

Southfield High will face Detroit Cody High School at 6:30 p.m. at Renaissance High School, in Detroit. The winner will play in the district championship game.

Head Coach Gary Teasley said, “We’ve got to play tough defense, not allowing more than one shot each possession.”

The Blue Jays are counting on sophomore standout Karl Patrick to contribute his usual double-digit number of points in the game.

Teasley said he isn’t adding any extra pressure for his guys: “We can’t think about who is going to win it all. We just need to think about being on a journey and seeing how the clock unfolds.”

In a previous match-up, Southfield High already slid by Farmington High School by a thin hair of 63-62 in overtime. That thriller was also held at Renaissance High School.  Sophomore star Amauri Hardy helped the team with two late clutch free throws. It was his first game back after missing most the season with injuries.

Hardy played a hard game, finishing with 12 points, one block and three rebounds. He even added two steals to the night. Hardy saw the team needed a boost and asked for a sub back into the game after the first half to get the job done.

Hardy said, “I couldn’t think about pressure; I had a job to get done because we needed to go into overtime.”

Coach Teasley said he has already put the win against Farmington behind him to get his game plan together for the Cody match up tonight.
