Duty Calls: Fatherhood has prompted Security Guard Andrew Hage to change careers. He has turned in his walkie talkie and accepted a new position.

Southfield High’s beloved security guard Andrew Hage has resigned.
Officer Hage said, “It was a tough decision, but in the end I had to think of my daughter.”
Hage is the new father of 6-month-old Brooklyn Hage.
The security officer is now headed to Culligan Water to do home installation and servicing of water softening and water filtration systems.
Senior Makene Culpepper said, “I’m happy that he has a better job, but I will miss him a lot.”
Officer Hage arrived at Southfield High 4 years ago, along with this year’s seniors, and said, “It was fun to grow up and experience Southfield High along with them.”
Hage has been a security guard for 9 years but before he was a security guard, he was an Air Force military police officer and spent 6 months in Iraq.
Senior Valencia Spencer said, “I’m mad, and it is unfortunate to see him leave. I was really looking forward to spending my senior year with him.”
Officer Hage said he will miss the relationships he has developed with the students and the staff; but he will not miss repeating, “Tuck your shirt in” or “It’s time to get to class.”
Hage said he favorite Southfield High memory was working security at last year’s graduation ceremony on a sunny June day at Chene Park, overlooking the Detroit River. “Just seeing all of the accomplishments and all of the students walking across the stage just made me so proud.”
Fellow security guard Jeremy Bowling said, “I’m very happy for him, but I’m also very sad to see him go.”
Officer Hage’s last day is scheduled to be October 31, but he said he plans to be back for this year’s graduation ceremony on June 14, cheering on the seniors.
The school has replaced Hage with Officer LaRon Fields, who will be the school’s fifth member of the school’s security staff, joining Bowling, Lawana Williams, Gary Bickley and Lesa Heard.
