Sing it: Senior Lamont Hicks raps the songs of Mackelmore at the 2014 Grammy Show.

The school auditorium rocked with the songs of Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Sevyn Streeter on April 17.

It was all part of the 2014 Grammy Show, featuring Southfield High students singing celebrity songs.

It was the talk of the school since the first announcement was made about auditions in January.

Sophomore Paige O’Neal said she loved the show: “Like Mr. Horn would say, it was a magnanimous performance, and I enjoyed watching the students reveal their skills.”

The show had performances by seniors Aireona Thompson as Beyonce, Jailyn Willis as Kelly Rowland and Madison Jones as Sevyn Streeter.

Other performers included senior Lamont Hicks as Mackelmore, freshman Alante Brown as John Legend, and senior Mystery Cottingham as Jazmine Sullivan.

Senior Corey Crawford and junior Martez Calhoun dazzled the crowd with dance moves

Three hosts introduced the acts. The host were Tabinda Sial, who was dressed as Draya from the TV show Basketball Wives, Juanita Brantley who was Jackie  from Basketball Wives, and Juawan Ward, who impersonated ASAP Rocky.

The show even featured a special guest performance from comedian and actor Kevin Hart, impersonated by senior Jordan Clark.

Between the performances, the hosts announced the nominees and winners for the 2014 Class Mock Elections, which included categories such as class fun size, Class clown, Class Batman and Robin and many more.

Junior Jeremy Gates said, “I love Grammys. It is my favorite part the year because it is usually the last big event before we get out of school, and it is really hype.”

English teacher Virna Hobbs-Calhoun said, “The performances were great, but the dancers had an interesting choice of clothing.”
