Hit man: Junior Katherine Nealy serves the ball during Varsity Volleyball practice .

The volleyball team is undefeated so far this year and is aiming to win another district championship.

The Lady Jays were district champs for five consecutive years but dropped the ball last year to Royal Oak, with a score of 2 matches to 3.

Team Co-Captain Daria Poole says, “The girls are really well-rounded and have a goal to win (Districts again).”

Poole says their toughest competition this year will likely be Avondale High School because they have a strong team.

So far this year the Lady Jays have trounced Romulus 3-0 and Berkley 3-1.

Coach William Reed appointed four captains this year, Poole says. Each captain brings something different to the table, Poole says. One is a peacemaker, one gives tough love, one is a mediator and one spreads team spirit, Poole says.

Teammate Khileah Williams says she is looking forward to the game against Harrison. “Their team is really good this year; they are better than I thought.
