American Idol Contestant Gets Classwork To Go

Starring on American Idol is not going to cause junior Malaya Watson to fall behind on her schoolwork, say Watson’s teachers.

So far Watson has missed more than two weeks of school to compete on the show that discovers new vocal talent.

To keep her up-to-date in her classes, he teachers have pulled work together for her.

Physics teacher Stacey Nunley says she has been assigning Watson online work through Physicsclassroom.com. Nunley says she also emails homework to Watson’s mother, who forwards it to Watson in Hollywood.

Watson’s Pre-Calculus teacher, Steven Sharp, and her World History teacher, Vince Bean, both say they sent a bundle of work to Watson’s counselor prior to her departure.

English teacher Bev Hicks says she assigned Watson projects prior to her departure.

Band teacher Alan Warmanen jokingly says Watson can just practice her tuba while she’s away, knowing full well the large instrument  is difficult to travel with by plane. He gave her music theory assignments to take with her.

Watson’s mother said she is pleased that American Idol gives her daughter a couple of hours per day to complete her schoolwork and also provides her daughter with a tutor.

Watson has made it to the top 13 finalists on the show.
