Science Classes Dissect Lamb Hearts

On Valentine’s Day, science students at Southfield High School were literally breaking hearts.

Freshman pre-Advanced Placement Biology students learned the complexity of a heart by dissecting lamb hearts on Valentine’s Day in Kim Wardell-Stone’s class.

Other Biology classes throughout the school did the same activity on Valentine’s Day.

“For the most part the students handle the task well because it actually sparks their curiosity,” said Wardell-Stone. “They’re not afraid to get involved and ask questions,” said said.

Freshman Antonio Melonson grimmaced after completing the dismemberment, declaring, “I wouldn’t do this again. It was gross.”

Freshman Tyler Washington had a different outlook. “Dissecting the hearts was really fun,” Washington said. “The most interesting part was being so close to a heart. I’ve never encountered anything like it.”
