Inside story: As part of her induction into the National Honor Society, junior Caitlyn Jones walks through a reception line of current NHS members. The receiving line was in the Blue Jay Cafe.

Junior Caitlyn Jones and 26 other students were inducted Wednesday into the National Honor Society (NHS).

She and others were “tapped” during their first hour class by current members of the NHS, who surprised them in class with a red rose. The new inductees were then led to the Blue Jay Cafe for a surprise reception where their parents were waiting for them.

After a brief reception, the group moved to the auditorium for a candle lighting ceremony and the reading of the NHS beliefs by current members Raven Bradford, Michelle Baker, Angel Perry and Aariston Dawson.

School Principal Michael Horn said it was largest group of inductees “on my watch,” which has spanned the last eight years. Last year 19 were inducted.

NHS members must maintain a 3.2 grade average, tutor other students after school four times a year, and join a club.

Besides Jones, the other new inductees are as follows:

Seniors: Diante Adams, Aasif Allen, Courtney Birberick, Carterris Carter, Fatema Humaira, Jeremy Kaigler, Micah Moore, Jay Reid, Tyler Turner, Daejon Trask, Aaron Williams, Austin Willis.

Juniors: Kaleb Baker, Jade Graines, Stephany Peavy, Miniece Ragin, Matea Smith, JaBre Wallace, Ariel Walker, Tarcie Watkins, Charda Williams.

Sophomores: Breanah Boyd, Elijah Mason, Shayla Smith, Ariell Sydes, Nakole Turner.
