The Girls Golf Team ended their season without a win but individual team members showed great improvement, said Coach Stephen Sharp.
The team nearly defeated West Bloomfield High School, Sharp said, losing by eight strokes, 243-235.
The team had one new opponent this year – Avondale High School, and several former opponents, including Berkley, West Bloomfield and Farmington High School.
Sharp, who formerly coached Boys Baseball, said he welcomed the opportunity to coach another sport. Sharp said the most important lesson he tried to teach his girls was “how to improve their skills and have life-long skills.”
Sharp said, “The girls have fun playing even though golf is very frustrating at times. We have a lot of first-year players that are learning to golf and working hard so we can improve.”
Fourth-year player and senior Captain Tyler Washington said she was happy to welcome the new players to the team this year. Among those was junior Shannon Harper.
“In high school I was never a part of a sport, so I joined golf,” Harper said. “I felt like golf was a mind game, and I’m good at using my mind. The team is supportive. I feel that we just need a little more improvement.”
