Boys Tennis Team Defeats Cass Tech

The Warrior Tennis Team is 1-6, defeating one opponent so far – Cass Technical High School.
The Warriors had a late start to their practices as they awaited the selection of Ernie Taber as their coach.
The tennis team adjusted this year to playing in Division 1, Taber said, because Southfield High School is now merged with Southfield-Lathrup. and enrollment nearly doubled due to the merge, he said.
“The team chemistry is good,” Taber said. “They get along well and support each other and there are a lot of new beginners.”
Third-year player and junior Captain Javen Edwards, who plays second singles, said, “It’s actually more running and work than people think” to play tennis well.
First-year doubles player and junior Irvin Watson said, “We added three new people to the roster; our team is growing every week, and with MHAA States, Regionals and Finals coming up, we can only get better and closer.”
