Chartwells Aims to Revise Lunch Menu

Decreased lunch purchases by juniors and seniors have prompted Chartwells Director of Dining Services Rodel Endaluz to rethink the lunch menu, he said.
To get student feedback on possible new lunch items, Endaluz recently set up the first-ever tasting cart in the lunchroom on October 22. Students could sample Asian foods that Endaluz plans to serve in the cafeteria’s Asian Nation food line.
“Each year steady (I see) maybe a 20 percent decrease of junior and senior lunch activity,” Endaluz said. He said the lunch changes imposed two years ago by First Lady Michelle Obama contributed to decreased lunch sales.
Obama spearheaded changes that required schools to remove sugary foods and provide healthier, lower-fat options and more fruits and vegetables.
