Calendar Changes Ruffle Schedules

To the dismay of some teachers and students, the dates for Spring Break have been changed from April 4-10 to March 24 – April 3. Second semester will also start later, on February 1, instead of the usual Tuesday after Martin Luther King Day.
And the school year will also end later, on June 21, instead of June 12.
“The decision was made out of the necessity to adjust the dates of the calendar to ensure that the semesters were evenly distributed,” said Rance Williams, the president of the Board of Education. “Secondly, we adjusted the dates for Spring Break so that the majority could enjoy more consecutive time off with their friends and family,” Williams said.
But Spanish teacher Tim Conley and social studies teacher Andrew Green had planned a trip to Spain with students for the original Spring Break dates. Now their trip will cause traveling students to miss a week of school, Green said. “It’s not fair to change the calendar when plans are already made,” Green said.
Also, Varsity Baseball Coach Jamie Glinz said he and his team might not be able to compete in the Oakland County Spring Break tournament that is scheduled during the original week of Spring Break.
