Senior Jordan Spencer was on the cross country team last year but was unable to compete his senior year when the team was cut.

Due to low student interest, Southfield High school has eliminated the Cross Country team this year, said former Cross Country Coach Richard Crist. Also, Crist said he was unavailable to coach the team again this year due to the November birth of his newborn son, Harrison.
The sport was offered for the past 60 years, but this year the school had more interest in having a competitive cheer team, said former Athletic Director Tim Conley.
The Cross Country team began to shrink in size and last year had only 10 members, including Jordan Spencer, who is a senior this year.
Spencer said, “Southfield should offer cross country; that’s a backbone sport.”
Spencer said the small team had unity. “It was like family, we were such a small team we had fun and became close as athletes.”
