Four different musical groups from Southfield High participated in the Spring Extravaganza concert held May 13.

The groups were Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Mixed Choir, and the Marching Blue Jays.

A highlight of the evening was the rousing performance of the Marching band. The sound of drums filled the room as the dancers came down the aisles of the auditorium.

The loud and energetic band performance contrasted with the more calm orchestra pieces.

Featured performers were Dru Davis and Marcus Williams, who sang ‘Radioactive’, and violinists Alyssa Montgomery and Jaylen Hunter.

The last number in the show – “Final Countdown” – was dedicated to retired Band Director Thomas Miller and Principal Michael Horn, who is retiring in June.

Trumpet player Samia Moorehead said the Spring Extravaganza is a special night because it’s the one time during the year when all of the schools musicians get together for a concert. She especially enjoyed when the trumpet section was featured.
