Band Director David Miller took over the Marching Blue Jays when his father retired two years ago.

Band Director David Miller has been a valuable part of the Southfield Marching Blue Jays for 13 long, hard working years. He is a dedicated teacher, and students are lucky to have him.
Growing up, Miller attended rival school Southfield-Lathrup. He came to Southfield High in the year 2003 to help his father, Thomas Miller, with the Marching Band program. It was like a dream come true for both Thomas and David Miller. After 2013, Thomas Miller retired and left the legacy in his son’s hands.
Just like his father, David Miller puts in countless hours to help the band students. Starting in the summer he writes music for the upcoming year and takes students to band camp. He spends countless other hours during the school year helping his band students maintain decent grades and earn scholarships.
David Miller doesn’t just look at the band kids as kids that he has to teach, but he looks and treats them as his “own kids.”
Miller deserves thanks for all he has done. He, like his father, Thomas Miller, is a great band director and role model to the kids of the Marching Blue Jays.
