3 Journalists Win Quill & Scroll Awards

Three Southfield Jay staffers won journalism awards from Quill and Scroll, the honor society for high school journalists.
Senior Ciah Green won an award for her feature writing. Her story “Shy Kid Sounds Like Allstate Insurance Man” highlights the morning announcer “voice of Southfield’.” Green said, “This award is extremely special and unexpected.”
Senior Parrish Pierce won an award for his editorial cartoon depicting young Americans standing in a very long line for the new iPhone 6, while the line for voter registration was practically empty.
Lastly, sophomore Rayven Malone won an award for her news story “Candy Pushers: Students bypass Sugar Ban.” The story spotlights high school students who go around the new lunch rules from First Lady Michelle Obama.
