Girls Softball Field to Get New Dirt

The Girls Softball field is scheduled to get a new dirt surface during the school’s annual spring cleanup day, on April 18, according to Principal Michael Horn.

With the boys baseball field already getting the red dirt, the girls team knew that their field would be getting the re-model soon, too.

Senior Taylor Winslow said, “Honestly, it’s been time for some new dirt. It’s getting bad, and you don’t even want to see the field on rainy days.”

Winslow is the star pitcher and outfielder for the team and is waiting on the first game, scheduled for April 17, against Trillium Academy, to show off her strong arm.

The red dirt will have a price tag of $5,000, but helps improve footing and ball bounce, said Winslow. It also helps the field to dry faster and provides a more consistent playing surface.

Senior Alexis Mills, who plays second base, said, “I feel like that (old) dirt owes me some new cleats.”

Mills said she look forward to the new dirt because the field at present is uneven and forms puddles, making the field muddy, hard to hard to run on, and hard on cleats.
