Blue Jays Fall to U of D

District Championship Slips Away

The Blue Jays ended their run for the district championship in basketball today with a loss to University of Detroit Jesuit, 60-64.

The two teams battled it out at a night game hosted at Renaissance High School in Detroit.

The score remained close all four quarters, but the Blue Jays stayed behind, sending U of D to the free throw line because of fouls.

“There is no way we should’ve lost,” said senior Clifton Padgett, who was in the stands with the Blue Jays.

“Both teams put up a good game,  but in the end,  U of D couldn’t be stopped in the last quarter,” said spectator George Brown.

For U of D,  Cassius Winston put up 30 of his team’s 64 points. For Southfield, Amari Hardaway put up a flurry of three-pointers that gave the Jays hope.

The final buzzer  not only ended the team’s season, but also Coach Gary Teasley’s year with the Blue Jays.
