Football Team Earns Academic Honor

For the fourth time in the last six years, Southfield High School’s Varsity Football team has received the Academic All-Star Award from the Michigan High School Coaches association.
“This particular award is presented to high schools throughout the state where the football players have a grade point average of a 3.0 or higher,” says Principal Michael Horn.
SHS received the award in 2008, 2009 and 2011.
Out of 160 Michigan high schools that were selected, Southfield High School is the only school where the majority of students are African American.
Senior Davontae Ginwright said that he is very proud of himself and his team. “This award really shows that we are not only stars on the field, but in the classrooms, as well,” Ginwright said.
