This Thanksgiving, Southfield High students have a lot to be thankful for, such as a the football team making the playoffs and new textbooks at every grade level.
They also have one person in particular to be thankful for, and that person is Counselor Thomas Holliday.
Holliday has done so much for the students over the 28 years he has been on staff:

  • With help from co-workers, he sets up the college fair and college visits.
  • He sends the seniors college and scholarship information at least once a week through e-mails he sends out.
  • He helps the seniors with college applications by answering any questions they may have, even if he is not that student’s counselor.
  • He makes sure that seniors are sending in their applications on time.

This year he set up Parchment accounts for all of the students. Parchment is an online service that helps students send their transcripts to the colleges of their choice.
While doing all of this, Holliday still manages to help all of his assigned students with counseling needs. How he manages to do all of these tasks every year is a mystery, but we are all very thankful for him.
Holliday has served in various roles over the years, including social studies teacher, assistant principal, and counselor. During those years, he has helped thousands of students without hesitation.
Holliday along with counselors Nesha Harper, Carol Johnson and Patricia Yorke, has given countless hours of assistance to Southfield High students. Last year’s seniors were able to receive $14 million in scholarship money; with the help of Holliday and the counseling team, SHS could exceed that amount this year.
