Ask most anyone, and they’ll tell you that Facebook is dead, Twitter is slowly dying and Instagram is where it’s at. Personally, I don’t agree with any of those statements. I’m still rocking Facebook.
At one point, Facebook was to be used to be a social media site to escape from teachers and family members, a way of seeing what peers were doing. Then Twitter was launched. My peers all slowly but surely began to shift to that site. I continued on with my Facebook and also made a Twitter account just to follow famous people, such as Justin Bieber and Leonardo DiCaprio.
I never had a MySpace account – that was before my time.
Now, instead of using Facebook just to see what my peers are up to, I have expanded my Facebook to express a variety of things. I post my own personal news and photos. If it weren’t for Facebook, I would have never gotten in touch with my far-flung cousins that I haven’t seen in a whopping 10 years. Also, being as busy as I am, Facebook is a way for me to keep all my family up-to-date on the latest events in my life, such as my winning 2014 Class President and even my National Honor Society induction.
I also now find myself even promoting Southfield High on the site. I have created a new Southfield Jay Facebook account that also keeps students updated, just as our Twitter does. Through my club memberships, I’ve noticed that the PA announcements in school don’t always get the word out. So I take to Facebook to post important information now and then. While others may visit their Facebook page once a month, I use mine once or twice a day.
Instagram is what most people prefer to use now. I see people on it, but I just feel it isn’t for me, and I promised myself I wouldn’t make an account. Instead, I would post pictures onto my Facebook page like it’s my mini Instagram.
But on our last snow day, I gave up and conformed. I downloaded the Instagram app from the App Store and created my Instagram page. After 7 days, I had 95 followers, and on my first picture I posted, 27 people liked it. Not bad for a first-timer. I’m still getting into the swing of things. I’m not quite sure yet if I like the social media app.
I wonder what’s going to be the next big social media site to die and the next site that will take over. Facebook had pictures and statuses, and then Twitter just had the statuses, or tweets. Now Instagram just has photos. Perhaps the next big thing will be video. Whatever it may be, I’ll probably keep my old social media sites. I’m not one to dump old favorites for something new.

Well, to be honest, this is the first person I’ve heard who doesn’t enjoy Instagram. But I’m not saying you have to love it or be addicted to it, but you’ll learn to love it sooner or later.
