Cheerleaders Gear Up For Competitions

Cheerleaders have another season ahead of them and are feeling more than ready, according to Nijah McNeal, a cheerleader of four consecutive years on the team.

They have completed try-outs and now have a new set of girls as additions to the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity teams.

They have also formed a competition team, something new for the cheerleaders who are not used to traveling to compete. McNeal, who is part of the competition squad, says the competition squad plans to enter its first competition in January of 2014, based on the decisions of Coach Shanavia Thomas.

McNeal says, “Cheer is not just an activity; it is a true sport. It takes will, power, patience, and determination to get through each season. Dedication is key!”

Their dedication and skills were shown in the performance of the cheerleaders at the opening home game of the boys’ basketball season on January 10, as the girls pumped the crowd up.
