Southfield Places 14th in Robotics Competition
Southfield High’s Techno Jays robotics team placed 14 out of 40 teams in the FIRST Robotics competition held February 27 and 28, at Southfield High.
Bedford High School took first place.
This year’s theme was “Recycle Rush” and the team objective this year was to stack recycle bins and a trash can.
Other school represented included Cass Technical High School, Detroit Country Day, and all-girls Marian High School, which partnered with all-boys Brother Rice High School to field a combined team.
Although the Technojays did not win the competition with first place, they made it to the quarter finals and won the Spirit Award.
Techno Jays team member Stephany Peavy said teams worked countless hours in preparation for the event. The objective was released in January and the teams were given six weeks to construct a robot that met the standards of FIRST Robotics.
A competitor from Avondale High School’s Robojackets team, Mohiunddin Baig, said, “I always enjoy coming to these robotics competitions. We have worked very hard and prepared to be here.”

This is a good story because it not only talks about the competition but the robot for our team as well.

The robotics competition was very interesting, it looks like something I might want to try eventually
