Band stand: The above photo of the Marching Blue Jays band is on permanent display at the new Applebee’s restuarnt in Southfield. The restaurant has other photos of Southfield High Blue Jays as well.

Large photos of Southfield High students are part of the hometown decor in the new Applebee’s restaurant on Southfield Road, in Southfield.
Cheerleaders, band members, and football players are all prominently featured in photos taken by Southfield Jay photographer Katherine “Kat” Nealy.
“Applebee’s is proud to have (photos of) Southfield High School and other surrounding schools in their restaurant,” said Manager Harvey Beckman. The photos make the restaurant a part of the community, he said.
“I am very shocked that my picture is in Applebee’s, but I like it because I love when the band gets attention after all of our hard work,” said majorette Kayla Owens, whose photo features her in her blue and silver sequined band outfit, twirling her baton. “”I do love that Applebee’s is representing Southfield in a good way.”
Photographer Nealy said, “It’s an honor to have my photos in the restaurant where everyone can see them.”
Truck driver Edward Jones, who was seated beneath photos of Birmingham Groves High School students, said, “I was very happy to have an Applebee’s open up in our neighborhood to give us a choice instead of just the coneys in the area for something later at night.
The restaurant is located at 29177 Southfield Road, north of 12 Mile Road. The phone number is 248-849-9620. It is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
