Senior Kayla Campbell shows off her newly tattooed series of butterflies on her right calf. Campbell says she wanted another tattoo so she searched the Internet for ideas. “I saw it on Google and thought it was cute,” Campbell says.
The senior paid $70 for her new work of art, which she had done at Skinn Sinns Tattoos, in Northland Mall.
That tattoo took approximately three hours to complete and, according to Campbell, it was worth it. Despite the lengthy amount of time the new addition took, Campbell admits, “Eventually I plan on getting the majority of my leg tatted.”
Campbell isn’t the only one with a butterfly tattoo. Band member Harry Styles of the English/Irish group One Direction had a butterfly tattooed earlier this year on his torso, just below his chest.
Campbell already has one other tattoo, which is of her name, on her right shoulder.
A tattoo is a “permanent mark or design made on your skin with pigments inserted through pricks into the skin’s top layer,” according to the Mayo Clinic’s website.
Tattoo artists typically use a hand-held machine that functions like a sewing machine, with a needle repeatedly piercing the skin. With each puncture, the needle inserts ink, creating the tattoo design.
The process can cause pain and infection if not properly cared for.
