More athletes earn college scholarships

Seven more seniors signed letters of intent to play college sports next year.

Kiara Salisbury signed a partial scholarship offer to play softball for Indiana Tech, where she plans to study criminal justice.

Salisbury’s Coach, Jamie Glinz, said, “She was on varsity since she was a freshman.” So her scholarship was no surprise to Glinz because “She is the most skilled player on the team.”

She says she hopes to shortstop.

Mieana Gaines attends University High but played Varsity Girls Basketball for Southfield. She signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Lincoln University, a black college in Pennsylvania. She plans to study physical therapy. And Raphael Braceful signed a letter of intent to play football for Defiance College, in Ohio. He says he plans to go into the school of business and hopes to play defensive tackle or outside linebacker.

Braceful’s teammate Caliph Thomas says Braceful “is a very hard worker who always handled his business.”

Two people signed letters of intent with Notre Dame College. Jade Ware a record-setting volleyball player at Southfield High is planning to play with Notre Dame. Also, Mouchettee Muhammad a young man who has played football for the Southfield High Bluejays plans to attend Notre Dame College playing football. Along with Mouchettee, Justin Danzy has signed his letter of intent planning to start playing football at Kalamazoo College.

For the first time in a long time the school also has a young lady named Jewel Hampton who has signed a letter of intent to cheer for Michigan State University.
